R.I.P. Michael Jackson

I write this with a chill all over my body.

Micheal Jackson passed away today.

I think, in his honor, we should all refrain from celeb gossip for a while.

My God, this is so sad.

We've just learned Michael Jackson has died. He was 50.

Michael suffered a cardiac arrest earlier this afternoon at his Holmby Hills home and paramedics were unable to revive him. We're told when paramedics arrived Jackson had no pulse and they never got a pulse back.

A source tells us Jackson was dead when paramedics arrived.

Once at the hospital, the staff tried to resuscitate him but they had no luck.

We're told one of the staff members at Jackson's home called 911.

LaToya ran in the hospital sobbing after Jackson was pronounced dead.

Michael is survived by three children: Michael Joseph Jackson, Jr., Paris Michael Katherine Jackson and Prince "Blanket" Michael Jackson II.

I loooved Farrah Fawcett, and I'll be watching The Burning Bed tonight, but Micheal Jackson?

Damn.

Ashanti Tries to Sing "Home" on Regis and Kelly

I love a person who takes on a challenge with gusto, but this song is way too big for Ashanti.

Of course, I had to find Stephanie Mills' original, great, fantastic version. She most definitely put her foot and a%% in the song. I wish talent still mattered. ~sigh~

And well, we know Whitney rocked it:

Kate and Jon to Divorce

Since we all know about Chris Brown and Rihanna, I decided to skip THAT post, and go on to the train wreck that is Kate and Jon Gosselin. If you don't know who they are (and aren't tempted to pick up a single tabloid in the supermarket), Kate and Jon are reality stars who have sextuplets. Kate is way too extra and Jon is way too lazy. So they aren't compatible and they're calling it quits. I hate to see marriages end...

All I know is that if I had 8 kids - who didn't even LOOK LIKE ME - for a man, we'd have to work that thang out and stay together. I'm not trying to be a single parent to all those damn children. Looking at Kate though, she just might be the one to tell Jon he can have 'em.

Story here.

"Jon & Kate Plus 8" comes on at 8 p.m. Central, Mondays, TLC

Black Couple Adopts White Daughter

Well here's an anomoly even in 2009....

Several pairs of eyes follow the girl as she pedals around the playground in an affluent suburb of Baltimore. But it isn't the redheaded fourth grader who seems to have moms and dads of the jungle gym nervous on this recent Saturday morning. It's the African-American man—six feet tall, bearded and wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt—watching the girl's every move. Approaching from behind, he grabs the back of her bicycle seat as she wobbles to a stop. "Nice riding," he says, as the fair-skinned girl turns to him, beaming. "Thanks, Daddy," she replies. The onlookers are clearly flummoxed.

As a black father and adopted white daughter, Mark Riding and Katie O'Dea-Smith are a sight at best surprising, and at worst so perplexing that people feel compelled to respond. Like the time at a Pocono Mountains flea market when Riding scolded Katie, attracting so many sharp glares that he and his wife, Terri, 37, and also African-American, thought "we might be lynched." And the time when well-intentioned shoppers followed Mark and Katie out of the mall to make sure she wasn't being kidnapped. Or when would-be heroes come up to Katie in the cereal aisle and ask, "Are you OK?"—even though Terri is standing right there.

Is it racism? The Ridings tend to think so, and it's hard to blame them. To shadow them for a day, as I recently did, is to feel the unease, notice the negative attention and realize that the same note of fear isn't in the air when they attend to their two biological children, who are 2 and 5 years old. It's fashionable to say that the election of Barack Obama has brought the dawn of a post-racial America. In the past few months alone, The Atlantic Monthly has declared "the end of white America," The Washington Post has profiled the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People's struggle for relevance in a changing world, and National Public Radio has led discussions questioning the necessity of the annual Black History Month. Perhaps not surprising, most white and black Americans no longer cite racism as a major social problem, according to recent polls. more here

Racism is alive and kicking. I say we (blacks) just keep on doing us. I offer no explanations and no apologies -- and I don't need the approval. At all.

Bush Speaks Out Against Obama Admin.

I guess President Bush finally put the bottle down long to tell us what he thinks of the Obama administration.

During the remarks — one of Bush’s first in the United States since leaving the White House — the former president commented on a wide-range of issues currently confronting the Obama administration, including the new president's push for universal healthcare.

"There are a lot of ways to remedy the situation without nationalizing health care," Bush said. "I worry about encouraging the government to replace the private sector when it comes to providing insurance for health care."

Asked directly if he thought his successor was embracing "socialist" polices, Bush stopped short of weighing in one way or the other, instead saying: "We'll see."

In a vigorous defense of his own national security policies, the president appeared to take issue with the new administration's early decision to close the detention center in Guantanamo Bay and ban the use of aggressive interrogation techniques.

"I told you I'm not going to criticize my successor," he said, according to the paper. "I'll just tell you that there are people at Gitmo that will kill American people at a drop of a hat and I don't believe that persuasion isn't going to work. Therapy isn't going to cause terrorists to change their mind."

Bush, in contrast to former Vice President Dick Cheney, has largely remained silent on the new administration's decision to prohibit the use of so-called enhanced interrogation techniques. But during his speech Wednesday the former president insisted he used "every technique and tool within the law to bring terrorists to justice before they strike again."

Bush also appeared to take a broad swipe at the tone of American politics in general, noting that partisan vitriol dates back to the founding fathers when Vice President Aaron Burr shot and killed Alexander Hamilton.

"At least when my vice president shot somebody, it was an accident," Bush said.
Really?

Fresh Prince Mom Dishes Dirt on Will Smith

As far as I'm concerned, Janet Hubbard is the only real, true mom from The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. When she was replaced by Daphne Reid (who, for some reason, down played her own acting skills on the show), I was too through. The original Vivian Banks was funny, entertaining, strong, and a fabulous actress. She should have never been replaced.

Janet Hubbard has said before that she was treated very unfairly when they dropped her from the sitcom, and now she's written a book about it. Go Janet. Tell it all, girl!

I know that many people will say, "Oh she's lying" or "Why is she trying to bring Will Smith down now?" And to those naive people I have this to say: #1 - How can a Janet Hubbard bring down a Will Smith? Black women don't care enough about black women to stop supporting Will, and the industry sure doesn't give a rat's tooth about some black chick who was dismissed from a sitcom staring a MEGA star. #2 - You don't know anything about the industry. You're merely a person with eyes who turns on the TV and laughs or cries. You have no earthly clue about the cut throat industry that Will Smith now dominates.

To but it bluntly, Janet Hubbard was too much woman, too black, and too talented of an actress to survive on The Will Smith Fresh Prince Show. Take a look around at the black actresses who get any REAL shine in 2009 - based on talent alone. Look hard and hopefully you'll be able to find one. Black women come in dead last place in the entertainment industry unless they roll with the punches or show some ass. Why do you think Halle Berry continues to remind us that she's a slut and down for whatever...?

From Janet's book:
In the book, Hubert lashes out at Smith and accuses the then-hip hop superstar of sabotaging her and other talented actors who worked on the 30-minute NBC comedy.

In one excerpt from the tome, given to BV Buzz exclusively, Hubert writes: "Smith had people around him who made sure no one outshone him. I was happy to see Don Cheadle become the quality actor that he is, and often wondered how he made it past one episode, as Hilary's boyfriend, being such a fierce actor. No one could be on 'The Tonight Show,' that first season, except Will. And I mean no one."

In an effort to drive the point home, Hubert also recalled an incident where another actor was cut from a guest spot on the show after being too impressive at an early rehearsal for that episode.

"I recall the lovely and incredibly talented Countess Vaughn coming to guest star. Oh my God! The day of table read, she was pee-in-your-pants funny. The writers were howling, we were howling, so I knew she was history – banished into the cornfield. Many years later, after she had her own show, I had to tell her when she asked me why. 'Miss Janet why did I get cut from the episode,' she asked? Simply, my darling, you were too good," she recollected.

Hubert also vividly details her termination from 'Fresh Prince of Bel Air,' something she claims to have never anticipated.

She writes: "My agent called; it was time. He had a very funny sound to his voice, not the usual wonderfully funny Michael that I knew. 'Jaaaannnet,' he said, 'I got the offer and you're not gonna like it. They offered you 10 episodes.' Now, to the layperson who doesn't know what this means, each show is an episode, and the usual amount is 22, with perhaps two extra. But the show was a hit so they would order 26, with each show taking a week to shoot. I remember swallowing very, very hard. [My son] Eli was only three and half months old. That meant a cut in salary of more than $100,000." Read More Here

Janet hasn't done very much since being tossed from The Fresh Prince either, and that saddens me:

Janet was also featured in a 2002 episode of Friends as Chandler's boss.

In 2005, she began playing the recurring role of Lisa Williamson, mother of attorney Evangeline Williamson on the soap opera One Life to Live. The character has made occasional appearances since then.

She was also featured as Michel Gerard's mother in an episode of the CW show Gilmore Girls. On top of that, she also made an appearance in an episode of The Bernie Mac Show, playing Bernie's overbearing Mother-In-Law.

Why is it that the comedian and/or the rapper is always elevated to stardom, but the serious actress has to settle for guest spots and touring stage plays? WHO is elevating the buffoon and stiffling the talented? Not to say that Will Smith is a buffoon NOW, but he darn sure started as one.

Oprah Winfrey: A Quack Lover?

I know Oprah wouldn't condone this picture. How unflattering. But the "Newsweek" cover was only the beginning. The full title of the piece gives a good indication of the article's content:

Live Your Best Life Ever!
Wish Away Cancer! Get A Lunchtime Face-Lift! Eradicate Autism! Turn Back The Clock! Thin Your Thighs! Cure Menopause! Harness Positive Energy! Erase Wrinkles! Banish Obesity! Live Your Best Life Ever!

...the truth is, some of what Oprah promotes isn't good, and a lot of the advice her guests dispense on the show is just bad. The Suzanne Somers episode wasn't an oddball occurrence. This kind of thing happens again and again on Oprah. Some of the many experts who cross her stage offer interesting and useful information (props to you, Dr. Oz). Others gush nonsense. Oprah, who holds up her guests as prophets, can't seem to tell the difference. She has the power to summon the most learned authorities on any subject; who would refuse her? Instead, all too often Oprah winds up putting herself and her trusting audience in the hands of celebrity authors and pop-science artists pitching wonder cures and miracle treatments that are questionable or flat-out wrong, and sometimes dangerous.
I have mixed emotions when it comes to Oprah Winfrey. I love her humanitarian work -- no matter how publicized it is. And I love the Oprah Winfrey show. Still. Every night (or almost every night) I look forward to watching it on DVR because if nothing else, it's familiar and, hell, just comforting, for lack of a better word. I've grown up listening to Oprah! Didn't believe everything she said, but I love watching the girl talk. She's a great public speaker. BUT, just as the writer of the Newsweek article feels, I too, think she's a bit naive and into way more new age, alternative mumbo jumbo than necessary.

And of course, Oprah thinks she knows eeeerything - she always has - and she can't sympathize with any vice other than gluttony. She can't understand how anyone can have addictions, be confused about their sexuality, cheat on their spouse, or do anything that would be deemed morally questionable. But she can understand a "man" being pregnant. Go figure.

Do you think Oprah's an overrated quack lover?

Obama Bust to Hit Houston

While browsing my racist local newspaper, I saw that a bust of the President will be on display this Friday evening in Pearland, TX, a city on the outskirts of Houston. Yippee! I can't wait to take a pic next to it.

But goodness... the comments for this article are ridiculous! If it weren't for the fact that I love how spacious Houston is + the cost of living + how new it looks in certain areas, I'd move to the East Coast. Or West Coast. Or anywhere where these kind of comments aren't commonplace about our first Black POTUS.

His head being in Texas explains alot about his actions in Washington. I hope it is placed right next to the other socilists.

The Messiah on display.......why don't we wait and see if ever does a worthy thing to deserve this or has the news media already brainwashed the country into thinking that he is THE SAVOR of all of our problems.

You are honoring a man before he has actually done something worth honoring.

Will the Obama head be displayed next to the Karl Marx head?

Makes on wonder how far spit would fly at 65 MPH going down 288.

Oh, how cool...they were able to make it lifesize.

Thank goodness I don't live in Pearland!! UGH!

He's not my president and has earned all the disrespect he recieves.

I have an English bulldog I need to walk. Now I know where to take her.

His ears are so big. How is that gonna work? His ego is even bigger. Will it show?

Keep it up. Just keep it up. Y'all will NEVER get another white president.

Ashanti Gets a Gig!

For the first time in years, I can Google Ashanti - News and something actually comes up that includes Ashanti, the singer instead of the ethnic group Ashanti.

The Encores! Summer Stars production of The Wiz, starring Ashanti, LaChanze and Orlando Jones, will open on Thursday, June 18 at New York City Center. (Previews begin June 12). Easing down the road with Ashanti's Dorothy will be Joshua Henry, James Monroe Iglehart, Christian White, Tichina Arnold and Dawnn Lewis.

The Wiz, the 1974 rock and soul musical based on the beloved L. Frank Baum story about Dorothy and her adventures in Oz, will be directed by Thomas Kail and choreographed by Andy Blankenbuehler, with music direction by Alex Lacamoire, (the team responsible for the Tony-winning In the Heights) sets by David Korins, costumes by Paul Tazewell, lighting by Ken Billington and sound by ACME Sound Partners.

Ya girl looks like she lost a few pounds for the role... And, really, there's no earthly reason for any self respecting man to wear this. Role be damned.

Singing as well as can be expected. Hey, it could be Ciara.

No, Tichina, can't play Dorothy anymore BUT she'd be the main reason I'd see the show. Is that Dawnn Lewis?

Want to hear something funny? I've been seeing Ashanti with this dog on quite a few blogs, but I hadn't really been reading the posts about her. Force of habit. So today I saw the duo again and thought, "Ashanti and that d@mn dog again...." Then, I FINALLY realized she's not being "new", she's just promoting The Wiz. Ding dong.

Eminem Wanted It

So, basically, Eminem was in on the Sasha Baron Cohen stunt on the MTV Awards. Paris Hilton wouldn't agree to get small balls in her face, but Eminem was down for it. And I don't think anyone really cares that Em KNEW what was to cum. No one's surprised. And guess what? No one's calling him a homo!

What would we be saying if Tracey Morgan's happy package had flown in Diddy's face? Or Lil Wayne's? Or Will Smith's? Or 50 Cent's?

Drake Interviewed in Hyde Park

Drake was recently interviewed in London's Hyde Park. He says that he and Rihanna are "just young and having fun and enjoying life…" Why do I feel like everyone - Drake and US - are a part of one long, dramatic act of foreplay for Rihanna and Chris Brown...

I think I like Drake, too; I like his look and his sound and I like that he represents the “cultured” rapper. Is he the Obama of rap? Personable, well-spoken, world traveled, in touch with the people and, ahem, light skinned? Is it back for the fellas? ha ha
