My Blogging

I created the first gossip blog.

Whew! - I’ve been holding that in since I first clicked on the BEST entertainment blog out there: Crunk and Disorderly. I had been doing something much more low key (think: home spun) since 1999. Under the sickeningly soulful name of TexasFlava, I'd created a page on BlackPlanet for the sole purpose of getting my opinions into cyberspace. I had no desire to include any personal information on my page, although my pictures were splattered throughout.

Chris Alexander, a witty, smart, clever, and private friend of mine who passed away earlier this year (RIP PD), had an impersonal yet heavily trafficked page on BlackPlanet. Because I thought he was the coolest thing since Matthew Knowles, I wanted my page to be impersonal also. I did agree that it screamed of desperation to make your BlackPlanet page a personals ad, so I was never tempted to go that route. All I wanted to do, at first, was crack on wack pages on BP. Those commentaries quickly turned into celebrity and news opinions. I had a nice following, too.

A few years into it, I lucked up on Crunk and Disorderly. I was shocked! I laughed, and I went to some other celeb blogs. I quickly realized these folks were serious about blogging. My commitment just didn’t go that deep. But, I’ve tried to maintain some semblance of a blog. I have gotten pretty damn lazy about it though. Instead of the insightful musings that I was known for on BP, I’ve resorted to quips here and there on celeb sightings and events. Little news—and even fewer original ideas.

I think I’m ready to put a little more effort into this thing.

Pimp C Remembered

In a statement released late Wednesday afternoon (December 5), Bun B, Pimp C's longtime friend and the other half of UGK, said, "His genius was unparalleled. His passion was undeniable and his love was unmatched. To say that I lost a friend or brother would never do justice to the relationship we shared. I will never be the same again. Bun B."

(Flipper be quick on the tribute songs…)

I don't even know what to write because there are so many things that come to mind when I think of Pimp C/Chad Butler. A die hard fan since '92, I loooooved me some Pimp C. He was so bold. creative. soulful. entertaining. crazy. real. talented. TEXAS. I really appreciated all of that. I'm glad he left a lot of material, but I needed some more. I am so glad that The Pimp got to record Underground Kingz with Bun, though. Classic material. You can hear it HERE.

West Coast rapper and labelmate Too $hort, who had performed with Pimp C on Saturday night, says his close friend left an indelible mark on hip-hop."Pimp C highly influenced the rap game," he said via statement issued to SOHH. "A lot of rappers adopted his rap style and his production techniques. He was my best friends and fortunately, I was just with him on stage Saturday night at the House of Blues on Sunset. He was in a good mood, smiling and laughing. That's how I'll always remember him."

It's kinda interesting that the last person to perform with him was a fellow "pimp". :-)

I will surely miss Pimp C. I'm Houston all the way -- I loved his beats, but that voice was so right. There will never ever be another Pimp C ...or UGK.

Keep your head up, Bun...

UHH - I wanna go to service
But I ain't been in so long,

Cause they be lookin at me funny
Watchin the plate when I tithe, put in my money (money)

Rather be dead than doin life in a jail cell
Die young oh well (well) I had a good life (life)
